Year Long Centennial Celebration!

Then and now... 2010 ushers in the Centennial year for VNA Community Healthcare, the original visiting nurse association of Branford (founded 1910) and Guilford (1920). As a non-profit, we are proud of our longevity and the progress we've made. In 1910 our top priorities were a tuberculosis outbreak and childhood epidemics such as measles and mumps. Today, we continue to work on public health issues such as flu vaccinations and senior fall prevention, but our core work is in helping patients manage conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer's.

The cake is eaten, but the glow of our centennial anniversary lingers. On May 25 more than 150 guests joined us to celebrate VNA Community Healthcare’s roots and our century long commitment to provide caring home care and community health education.  To read about the party and view the Related Photo Gallery, click here.

We viewed pictures of our founder, Dr. Gaylord (with his granddaughter in attendance) and Maude Britt, our first nurse, who made visits using her horse and sleigh. Governor Rell and the Legislature presented us with proclamations. Several elected officials provided celebratory toasts in honor of our historic milestone. Branford First Selectman Anthony “Unk” DaRos explained when he was a boyhood the nurse’s car generated as much excitement as a police car or a fire truck.

We hope you will add to the fun by sharing your VNA stories with us. If your family received our care or if you worked for us, please contact Michelle Ferguson at 203.458.4277 or email. We'd love to hear about it.

We look forward to 100 more years of providing home care and support for family caregivers to our Branford and Guilford neighbors!
